Stevens Auction will be liquidating the contents of the nationally known furniture makers, Nostalgia Furniture, a family-owned Southern business that personified entrepreneurship, ingenuity, and perseverance. Nostalgia started up from humble beginnings in 1990, when Mike and Martha Ellis came out of retirement to consider opening a family furniture shop in downtown Columbus, Mississippi. After seeing an Indonesian collection in Atlanta, they were hooked.

As they invested more, their business grew from one shop in Columbus to another in Birmingham, Alabama. Never settling for anything less than the very best, Mr. and Mrs. Ellis traveled to Indonesia to learn for themselves how to make a better product for their customers. Then, after they gained a partner out of San Francisco, California, they began working from a factory, which had approximately 250 well-trained employees.

Quality was the number one priority from beginning to end, and in the peak of business, Mr. and Mrs. Ellis were shipping 200 to 300 pieces a week, each piece a superior, high quality product. They had businesses in North Carolina, Georgia, California and Mississippi, and they were featured in several national magazines for their contributions to the furniture industry in the United States.

However, after September 11, 2011, their investment in Jakarta ran into a number of deep and troubling disruptions, eventually leading to the closing of their Indonesian venture. The furniture we will be selling was made at the peak of their success. All of this merchandise was made from kiln-dried Mahogany and Teakwood; every piece is top quality and intended to last a lifetime.

The open house preview will be on Friday, April 29, 2011, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and again, beginning at 8:00 a.m. on auction day.
